On November 15, 2022, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) announced that it will begin accepting applications for $250 million in funding for energy efficiency upgrades, retrofits, and energy audits. The Energy Efficiency Revolving Loan Fund Capitalization Grant Program will enable state energy offices to establish revolving loan funds for energy efficiency and clean energy projects in residential homes as well as commercial buildings like data centers. The overall goals are to:
- Improve energy efficiency, physical comfort, and air quality of existing building infrastructure
- Reduce energy intensity of existing buildings and facilities
- Improve the control and management of energy usage during peak times
In a statement, U.S. Secretary of Energy Jennifer Granholm said, “Energy efficiency is one of the most cost-effective and easiest to deploy solutions we have to combat climate change and reduce energy costs.”
In order to be an eligible recipient of loans, grants, and/or technical assistance, commercial sub-sectors (including publicly and privately owned businesses) must meet specific requirements, which can be found in the program’s FAQs.
